Impact Housing Association is an innovative, go-ahead organisation operating in Cumbria since 1975. Our name still reflects our objectives - Improvement through Action.
We still work to the principle of improving the lives of local people by driving through changes.
Our main activity is renting good quality, affordable housing and we are the major provider of Supported Accommodation in Cumbria. Regeneration in local communities is a key part of our work. We are involved in many community based services including recycling, cyber cafes and training. Impact operates as a Charity.

Pow Wow Book Launch
A book of personal stories of domestic abuse, written by women living in Cumbria - was launched at Tullie House on Monday 11th August.
The book is called Pow Wow, which stands for ‘Power of Women, Words of Wisdom. This is also the name of the domestic abuse support group run in partnership between Impact Housing Ass Ltd and Sure Start, Carlisle South Children’s Centre. This group initiated the idea for the book, as they felt that it was important for these to be told. Group members have been involved in all aspects of the planning and collation of stories, poems and pictures.
The book was launched by Britain’s Got Talent legend, Andrew Johnston, who sang a moving rendition of Eric Clapton’s Tears In Heaven.
Also speaking at the event were Morag, Andrew’s mother, Mike Muir, Chief Executive of Impact Housing and Lynda Hassel from Sure Start, who all said how pleased they were to be involved.
The launch was well attended and guests included The Mayor of Carlisle.
The book contains harrowing stories of women who have experienced physical, sexual, psychological and financial abuse at the hands of their partners, as well as information and contact details of agencies that are able to offer advice and support.
Proceeds from the book will go towards the running of a new women’s support group called “In the pink”.
