Social Work Service

DeafVision provides a Social Work service on behalf of Cumbria County Council, who have a statutory responsibility to:
Provide an "assessment of needs for community care services" (Section 47, NHS & Community Care Act 1990)

Specialist social workers provide a generic service covering the whole spectrum of social work activity for both adults and children.

To achieve this we work closely with the Adult Social Care, Children's Services and other statutory and voluntary organisations.

 



Some ways we may be able to help

Work with Children

Provide advice on available benefits
Provide information about other oganisations who provide support
Provide advice about equipment/environmental aids and referrals to the Rehabilitation and Technical Service (for assessment for equipment)
Arrange meetings with other families and Deaf adults
Support parent(s) and children on visits (e.g. hospital visits, reviews, etc.)
Help parent(s) understand the social and emotional implications of being deaf
Provide support to children, parent(s) and other family members
Work in partnership with other services

Work with Adults
Provide advice and guidance about Communication choices (lipreading, manual, oral and total communication)
Encouragement to understand the emotional implications of being deaf
Guidance and support in finding employment and training
Support and advice in benefits
Promote and encourage independent living and improve Life skills
Support in contacting other appropriate services
